Nederland Elementary School (NES) and Nederland Elementary PTA hosted their annual Kindergarten Information Night to inform parents about kindergarten at NES.

The evening started with a pizza and salad dinner. Pizza is one of the favorite meals BVSD provides, according to the elementary students. This meal was served by NES kitchen lead Kellie Shankey, NES registrar Sheila Kassera, and NES PTA President Erin Wilson.

Parents then went to the kindergarten classroom to hear about what kindergarten is like at NES. Childcare was provided for all the kids attending.

NES principal Caleb Melamed spoke to the parents about the school’s goals and mission that all fall under the theme of Education at Elevation; adventure, high expectations, stewardship, equity, and whole human beings (social emotional learning). He also spoke specifically about the kindergarten day.

There was also a time parents were welcome to ask questions about the school and its policies.

Monte Miles who is head of dispatch and the BVSD bus terminal in Nederland spoke to the parents and answered their questions about transportation. Miles also informed parents and asked them to spread the word that they are in need of bus drivers. There are pre-k to high school kids that attend Nederland schools who ride the buses and bus drivers are needed to get these students to school.

Wilson spoke about how the PTA supports the school and helps provide exciting activities like NED SHRED (ski days at Eldora) for students.

Then, Melamed and Kassera shared with parents how to register their child for kindergarten.

Sending your child to kindergarten is a big step for a family. The staff and teachers at NES are there to help you and your child navigate this transitional time into elementary school.

If you have any questions contact Kassera at sheila.kassera@bvsd.org or call 720-561-4808. Kassera will be happy to help you through the process.
