It’s the Holidays! Murray the Ned-famous Yak was ready to play the role of Santa’s reindeer and pull the sleigh all across town.[/caption]
On Friday, December 1, 2023, as the sunlight began to dissipate and Nederland residents gathered together outside the Town Hall, snow suddenly started to fall just as the caroling began. Children ran about and laughed as friends and neighbors conversed between sips of hot chocolate, and Murray the Yak provided Yuletide sleigh rides through the accumulating snow.
With thanks to the hard work of the Nederland Parks Department, who toiled for days decorating Town Center with strands upon strands of lights, the 2023 Nederland Holiday Lighting Ceremony was a successful event. The community came together to celebrate the Nederland spirit and the hope for a prosperous 2024.
A bright sleigh covered in lights waited for riders right out in front of the Town Hall, with Murray filling the role of the Christmas reindeer and pulling excited children through the parking lot. The Calvary Chapel choir led the crowd in a sing-along of wonderful carols, creating the perfect holiday vibe for the ceremony.
Town Hall was decked out in holiday lights, with colorful candy canes lining the paths outside. Inside, past the beautifully decorated tree (that is just a few inches too tall for the building), Town staff provided festive snacks and hot chocolate.
As the crowd eagerly awaited for the countdown to the big moment, Mayor Billy Giblin gave a short speech about his love for the peace we share in our mountain community, and about his hope for a successful future.
The crowd cheered as the great display was sparked to life and their faces became aglow by the warm radiance of the lights. Then, following Santa and Mrs. Claus as their sleigh was pulled by Murray, the crowd went a-wassailing through the streets of Nederland.
Special thanks to all those who contributed to making the 2023 Nederland Holiday Lighting Ceremony a truly memorable event that exemplifies what makes Nederland such a unique community.
