On Friday, November 5th, and Saturday, November 6th, 2021, theater and choir director Elizabeth Evans will host Nederland Middle-Senior High School’s annual fall play season. In addition, talent show acts will be performed by select students between each show. Friday will host three shows and Saturday will host two.
Starting with the Friday plays, Radium Girls (written by D.W. Gregory, directed by Skylar Abookire and Lucy Schalz), performed in its one-act version, is based on the true story of Grace Fryer, one of many women who painted watch dials with radium. After seeing the disastrous effects radium has on their health, she fights to get legal backing for the affected women, but where commercialism is concerned, it’s not easy finding a lawyer.
Anxiety is Orange (written by Lindsay Price, directed by Elizabeth Evans) is a vignette play that follows multiple characters as they navigate the various colors of their world, finding how each one has a symbolic meaning in their own lives.
The Inexplicable Chaos Factor of Mia Gregory (written by Emily Hageman, directed by Natalie Taylor and Ivy Brundege) follows the teenage mathematician Liz as she struggles to understand her best friend Mia through the performance of a play.
Moving on to the Saturday shows, Fidget (written by Bradley Hayward, directed by Rowan Harper and Townes Bakke) is a vignette play that explores the issues that kids have with standing still and their root causes, from disputes to self-image to sugar.
Finally, 12 Angry Villains (written by M.G. Davidson and Jason Pizzarello, directed by Zach Weiner and Ben Nichols) is a parody of the cinematic classic 12 Angry Men that follows 12 famous fairy tale villains as they discuss the murder of the innocent pirate Captain Hook by the treacherous Peter Pan -- or is Peter Pan actually innocent?
The fall plays and talent shows will start at 7 p.m. in the Nederland Middle-Senior High School Auditorium on November 5th and 6th. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
