Mackenzie Weber will be graduating with Nederland’s Class of 2023. She has attended Nederland schools since Kindergarten.

While at Nederland Elementary Mackenzie fondly remembers track and field days and outdoor education. While in middle school she remembers how much fun it was going to High Trails Outdoor Education Center and being in the Nordic club.

While at Nederland High Mackenzie has been part of the Nordic ski team during her ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade years. She has been involved in Student Council every year in high school. She has been in the Executive Student Council in eleventh and twelfth grades. Mackenzie has been a part of the National Honor Society in eleventh and twelfth grades.

Mackenzie is grateful for the small community at Nederland Middle Senior High School (NMSHS). She is appreciative of the amazing teachers and the close connections that can be made. The teachers she felt who made her high school especially meaningful were Kelly Strong, Scott Geels, Alberto Real and Rovenna Yakubov. The classes she loved the most were math, science, and history.

Being on the Nordic ski team was also a huge part of Mackenzie’s time at NMSHS. She says that one of her friends from the ski team, Megan Hess, helped make her time in high school special. Two other good friends Mackenzie would like to acknowledge are Ande Hammers and Skylar Abookire.

After graduation Mackenzie will be attending CU Boulder. She will be majoring in biomedical engineering and is intending to minor in computer science. From CU Boulder she has received three scholarships, the Regent Scholarship, the Society of Women Engineers Scholarship, and the Esteemed Scholars Hale Scholarship.

Mackenzie is passionate about education, being outdoors and horses. She is so passionate about horses she has been awarded a Arabian Horse Foundation Scholarship. She has also been a member of the Boulder County 4-H for six years in the horse project. She has competed at county and state fairs. Mackenzie has been treasurer, vice president, and president of the Easy Riders 4-H Club. She has also competed and won on the state and national level in horse bowl and hippology.

Mackenzie’s advice to students at Nederland Middle Senior High School is to “get involved and have fun!” The years always seem to have gone fast when graduation is only a few weeks away.

Congratulations Mackenzie!
