Ned principal placed on administrative leave

Investigation ongoing into unnamed incident

NEDERLAND — The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) has placed Nederland Elementary School and Nederland Middle-Senior High School Principal Caleb Melamed on administrative leave.

According to a letter sent to Nederland Schools families from Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. Neil Anderson, “BVSD is investigating an incident that occurred during an event at Nederland Middle-Senior High School this weekend. Consistent with the district’s standard protocol, Principal Melamed has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is underway. Administrative leave during an investigation is not, by itself, a determination or finding regarding what occurred.”

The school district is limited in what it can share during an active investigation. “We are committed to providing additional information when it is appropriate and permissible to do so," Anderson wrote in the statement

During the time that Melamed is on administrative leave, Vice Principal Mary Butler will provide leadership at Nederland Elementary School, and Vice Principal/Athletic Director Sean DePaula and Dean Mike Epke will provide leadership at Nederland Middle-Senior High School.

BVSD Chief Communications Officer Randy Barber stated, "Regarding Principal Caleb Melamed:  8/22/05 - 5/29/10 he was a teacher at Lafayette Elementary; he resigned in May 2010. He was hired 7/27/20 as Principal at Nederland Elementary, then beginning last school year, he also became principal of Nederland Middle-Senior High.  He's currently on admin leave, effective yesterday [September 28, 2026]."

The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
