On Jan. 3, 2018, a Nederland Marshal’s Office officer was sent to investigate a complaint about a white Astro Van which had been parked at the community center for over a week. A license check showed that the van was registered to a company in Louisville. The owner, when contacted, said the van had been sold. The NPD tried to contact the new owner and tell him it was illegal to drive around without a valid license plate. The officer removed and destroyed the plates. On Jan 4, the NPD received another message regarding the van saying there was title to a Nederland resident and the van would be removed.

On Jan. 15, a woman came to the NPD to report a Protection Order Violation. She said she had been pursued by the same man in 2012 and had told him to leave her alone. In 2016, the man approached her in a public place and whispered in her ear, and then approached her wanting to meet with her and that’s when she asked for a protection order.

The latest incident occurred at a bar in Nederland when the man whispered in her ear again asking if it was okay for him to stay. She said yes. Later the man walked over to the woman again and she told him to leave her alone. She left the bar. She asked the officer to talk to the man and makes sure he leaves her alone. Because the man had violated the 100-foot order, he was asked to come to the NPD and was arrested and transported to the Boulder County Jail.

On Jan. 9, an NPD officer went to investigate a vehicle left behind at a local bar. The officer noticed the front bumper was almost completely separated from the front of the vehicle. He learned that the car had been stolen from Westminster. The windshield was cracked, and the right front tire was flat. The door handle was missing, and the steering column shroud and the steering wheel air bag were also missing. The officer found a tool bag in the back seat and a floor jack and spare tire in the trunk. The vehicle was towed, and the owners were advised that the car was found.

On Jan. 12, a Ned officer pulled up to the NPD and as he exited his vehicle he caught a glimpse of a person who disappeared out of sight. When he looked around the patrol car he found a woman getting up off the ground who said she had slipped on the ice. She said she didn’t need medical help, that he should do something about the snow and ice. He told her to talk to the snow removal company and left. On Feb. 12, the officer found an email from the woman requesting a statement about the incident to give to her insurance company, saying she had broken her hand when she fell.

On Jan. 16, a patrol officer saw a vehicle with expired registration and made a traffic stop. The driver had no proof of insurance. The officer found a warrant from the Colorado State Patrol out of Chaffee for FTC. The officer wrote a summons and then took him into custody and transported him to the Boulder County Jail to be booked on the warrant.

On Jan. 19, a woman reported a domestic dispute that had taken place the night before. A 19-year old female said she had been with friends, smoking marijuana and drinking vodka when an argument started and the suspect became verbally abusive. The woman said she punched him and he grabbed her and screamed “awful things” at her and then threw her into the wall. He held her mouth shut, and she bit his finger. She and a friend left the house.

The officer noticed fresh bruises on the woman’s arm. Paramedics were called and advised her to go to a doctor and to talk to a victim’s advocate.

The officer talked to the suspect, who had multiple bite marks on his finger and forearm. He stated he had not hurt her. The witness at the scene was interviewed and said he heard them fighting and then heard crashing sounds.

The witness and the woman went outside, and she fell down the stairs. The witness drove her home. She did not call the police. The witness said the woman slapped the man many times and the man had not threatened her, just yelled a lot.

The officer decided he had probable cause to arrest both of the people involved on third degree assault, domestic violence and underage drinking.

On Jan. 26, the man was arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail. The officer contacted the woman and arrested her as well and provided her with a Victim’s Rights pamphlet. She was transported to the jail.

On Jan. 29, a man entered the NPD to report a theft. He said he and a friend were on the south side of Barker Reservoir hanging out when he set down his bag while he and his friend threw rocks and goofed off. They saw a young man, 18-20 years old, walking two dogs and wearing “skater shoes.” When the dog walker left the area, the two men returned to find the bag had been opened and $15,000 cash was missing. He said the cash was from a land sale transaction. They said the man with the dogs must have stolen the money.

On Feb. 2, the man had not found the money or seen the suspect. He told the officer he would get copies of supporting documents. The crime is under investigation.

On Jan. 27, a Ned officer was called to respond to a domestic violence report. The department had been called to the same address on other occasions. The officer was investigating the theft of a cell phone from a local store and the phone was found at the residence. The woman said the man set her up after she told him to leave. The next day, a BCS Deputy delivered papers to the woman. Their two children were being removed from the home. The domestic violence charges are under investigation.

On Jan. 28, an officer responded to a call from a man who asked for a civil standby while he obtained his property. A deputy told the officer it was going to be a Harassment/Domestic Violence case. The deputy took the suspect into custody and transported her to the jail and asked the Ned officer to meet him there. During an interview with the woman, she said her boyfriend was drinking whiskey and when she asked him why he drank so much, he blew up emotionally. She went to her bedroom and the man used a wire to unlock her door. He threw a chair to the ground, breaking it. When he came back later, he started to gather his belongings to move them into the living room. When she started helping him move out he flipped the bed over and she slapped him. He then called the police. A no contact order was put in place and she is not allowed to go back home. She was not allowed to contact the man.

On Jan. 31, a man reported that his dog was missing from inside his residence, a 2-year-old Corgi who was usually locked in the downstairs bathroom when he was away. The dog is a purebred worth $1,200. The case is under investigation.

On Jan. 31, a local business reported that it had received a counterfeit $20 bill. Tape covered the center and a discolored section was at the top, side and back face. The officer asked the manager to check video footage during the transactions. The camera had not been set up and the case is closed.
