On March 15, the NPD received a cold sexual assault case report from the Lafayette Police Department in which the 18-year-old victim says the crime occurred at a party in Nederland. She said she and a friend went with a friend, driving from Boulder and she is sure that they went up Boulder Canyon into the mountains. She said she was not intoxicated or high but does not recall driving past Barker Reservoir.
The officer says it sounds as if they turned off before arriving in Nederland. The victim says the home belonged to a classmate. When the officer checked on a house belonging to a person with the same name, the victim said it was not the house she went to.
The case was turned over to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

On April 3, a Nederland Police Department officer was dispatched to the RTD Park and Ride in Nederland on a report of a disturbance. When the officer arrived he saw a crowd of people waiting for a bus. They pointed out a man sitting on the bench, drunk and injured and the witnesses said the injured man had caused a fight. The man had blood on the left side of his head and appeared agitated.
When the officer asked him he needed the medical attention, the man became belligerent and wanted to know what happened. His speech was slurred and he couldn’t keep his balance when he tried to get up. A witness said the man had screamed obscenities at a woman and then became aggressive, physically confronting the witness. When the witness tried to grab hold of the man, he fell and struck his head on a bus shelter corner post. When EMTs arrived the patient picked up some blood covered snow and demanded to know whose blood it was.
When the man eventually calmed down he was checked out in the ambulance and consented to being transported to the Boulder Community Hospital for stitches. Several unopened bottles of alcohol were found in his backpack.

On April 3, a Ned officer responded to a criminal mischief call. A business owner complained that a neighboring business owner had caused damage to the chain link fence separating their properties, that the neighbor had spray painted an item and the overspray landed on their fence and they wanted to press charges.
The officer noticed an area about the size of a soccer ball which had some black spray paint it. He noted that the area was hard to see, not obvious. He told the man to fill out a victim statement. The officer contacted the neighbor who said he had not intended to cause any damage and would clean the spray paint off the fence.
He requested a civil standby as he did the cleaning. Within seconds the complainant began yelling that he was destroying evidence, that he wanted to prosecute and he wanted professionals to do the cleaning. The officer told the man to go back to his business.
He went behind his privacy fence and continued to yell to such a degree that it became an officer safety issue and backup was requested. The man said he was retaliating because he believed his neighbor had reported that he was illegally parking in a disabled slot.
The spray painter was not charged; there had been no criminal intent, and the issue is going into mediation.

On April 4, an NPD officer stopped a vehicle for having a defective left brake light. The driver exited his vehicle quickly saying he was on his way to a coffee shop. The man could not show registration or proof of insurance for the vehicle, saying it was buried somewhere in the interior of the car. The officer told him to unbury the information and when the man did find his registration, it turned out his license had been revoked. He was placed into custody and transported to the Boulder County Jail.

On April 5, an officer noticed a vehicle traveling 35 mph in a 25 mph zone with its high beams on. He flashed his overhead lights signaling the driver to slow down, which she did, but she failed to dim the high beams. When the officer pulled the woman over, he found the woman was protected by a permanent protection order.
The officer saw a man sitting in the rear passenger seat who turned out to be the person who was restrained from seeing the driver. The man was placed under arrest for violation of a protection order and transported to BCJ.

On April 7, NPD officers responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in the RTD Park and Ride. When they arrived they saw smoke and flames coming from a silver Jeep. The Nederland Fire Protection District arrived and extinguished the fire. The owner’s phone number was found in the glove box and she was contacted. She said she had been having electrical problems and the dash lights had been flickering that morning.
She was told the vehicle had to be removed from the parking lot and she said she would contact her insurance company agent. The Jeep was removed later that day.

On April 9, a woman reported that her purse had been stolen from a local bar the previous night. She said she left her rectangular shaped green and brown purse wrapped in a sweater in a booth and it disappeared. She had her driver’s license, bank cards, keys, $60 and Nokia android phone in a purple case. When she called her phone, it was either out of range, turned off or had a dead battery. The case is inactive until other information is available.

On April 16, a business owner reported that a man had run up a bar bill of $24.50 and then walked out. The owner said she heard that this had happened in other places in town. She said if he would pay the bill, she would not press charges. When the officer went to the man’s home, his roommate said he did not expect him to return anytime soon.
The officer told the roommate to tell the suspect that if the bill was not settled in the next two hours, he would issue a summons for theft. About 20 minutes later the bill was paid in full by a friend.
