The Nederland High School Mountain Bike team had their first race in Frisco last weekend, battling rain and start-of-season nerves to come out third in Division Two. With a record number of fourteen riders this year, Nederland was bumped up from Division Three.
Codi Waldron grabbed ninth for freshman girls, Amika Begin took fourth in sophomore girls, and Junior Halle Peiffer came in thirteenth for JV girls. Our varsity riders, Laila Waldron, who was just off the podium, and Grayson Shurr, had very strong showings in this highly competitive league. Seventh grader Nora Shurr even managed to win the Yeti Skills Course.
This year, Grayson Shurr helped design team jerseys as his senior gift, receiving generous donations from local businesses. A huge shout out to Eldora, Justin’s, Rudi’s, Peak to Peak Endurance, and Reboot Mindfulness for supporting the mountain bike team and making the fast-looking new jerseys materialize!
The team’s next race is the Showdown in the Boat in Steamboat Springs on September 8.
