Nederland Middle-Senior High School hosted its annual fall play season on Friday, November 4, and Saturday, November 5, 2022. This year’s season, which had three student-directed plays and one play directed by theater and choir director Elizabeth Evans, played out a little differently than normal, with all of the student-directed plays being performed on both nights instead of just one.
Evans’s play, Competition Piece (written by John S. Wells), follows three groups of students preparing for a drama competition – one group chooses a romance, one chooses a teen drama, and one chooses a Japanese Noh version of Hamlet. The production was performed by the students in the introduction to theater class and starred Miles Zotti, Glen Kress, Aric Olson, Nico Dow, Austin Chareunsouk, Hayden Camp, Madalyn Brunder, Aiden Cleveland, Lucas Schalz, Mason Lupe, Max Godsil, Lucas Graves, Ande Hammers, Presley Boyle, Kevin Ackerman, Bella Manweller, Zeke Fitzer, and Beshal Malla.
Reunion on Gallows Hill (written by Tim Kelly and directed by Skylar Abookire and Lucy Schalz) follows six girls as they spend the night in an old barn in Salem, Massachusetts. During their stay at this old barn, the spirits of the witches condemned during the Salem Witch Trials rise up and possess them. The production starred Aya Pelkum Donahue, Sophia Beauvineau, Blue Garcia-Paine, Ande Hammers, Rory McLaughlin, Sierra Tomlinson, Jolie Turner, Eliza Moore, Amika Begin, Penny Bodnar, and Codi Waldron.
The Audition (written by Don Zolidis and directed by Blue Garcia- Paine) follows a group of students as they work to get a role in their high school’s production of A Chorus Line. The production starred Leila Tarleton, Myla Yoh, Dylan Karowe, Lola Kelley, Kiran Phillips, GrayRiver Pearl, Libby Chandler, Olice Diaz, Nitzana Harkness, Perrine Breche, Ezra Baumhover, Tyler Begin, Paul Garrigou, and Evelyne Stanton.
Finally, The Man in the Bowler Hat (written by A. A. Milne and directed by Noah Turner and Ande Hammers) follows the lives of John and Mary as a “terribly exciting little affair” occurs in their lives. The production starred Kyle King, Skylar Abookire, Tyler Goodnow, Lucy Schalz, Ben Weber, Aiden Cleveland, and Noah Turner.
