Hello everyone! Happy Holidays! Happy Chanukah, Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year! Whatever you celebrate this Holiday season, I hope you all are celebrating with family and friends!

Would you like to be on the Board of Trustees? We are taking applications for appointments. Applications are due by January 12, 2024, and you will also need to attend the BOT Orientation on January 9, 2024, and commit to run for Trustee in the April 2024 election. I encourage all registered electors of the Town of Nederland to consider joining us on the BOT, whether we decide to appoint or go to election. It is a VERY interesting role we are honored to fill in our Town, and we need you. There will be five seats up for re-election in April 2024.

On January 2, 2024, we will be voting to approve the 2024 Budget, including the Town initiating Paid Parking in the Visitor Center Parking Lot and E 1st Street downtown, contracting with BCSO for Extra Duty Coverage for Traffic Control, and contracting with BCSO for Animal Control. Please join us! We want to hear what you think!

On January 16, 2024, the Bobcat Ridge Team (Mountain Housing Assistance) will be presenting their proposed project Bobcat Ridge. Please attend and be part of that discussion.

Here’s what we have been doing:

On October 24, 2023, Nederland hosted a Meet & Greet with BCSO Sergeant Asa Merriam. And then we had the first 2024 Budget Work Session presentation and discussion.

October 27, 2023, Mayor Pro Tem Tom Mahowald and I attended the Boulder County Commissioners’ climate event to renew our commitment to decarbonization through electrification.

October 31, 2023, Nederland Tourism Management & Responsible Visitation Community Action Planning Workshop. The workshop was supported by the Colorado Tourism Office through the Destination Blueprint Program.

November 1, 2023, I attended the Peak to Peak Endurance Local Launch Party at Sweet Sue’s to hear from Gavin Coombs about the many ways in which Peak to Peak Endurance has been and will continue to contribute to our community.

November 2, 2023, I attended the Warren Miller Movie ALL TIME at the Backdoor Theatre. It was a fundraiser for the Nederland Middle School High School Alpine and Nordic Ski Teams. I am the coach of the Nederland Middle School Nordic Ski Team. Thank you to all who attended. It was a very successful event, and the movie was great too!

November 7, 2023, was the second 2024 Budget Work Session presentation and discussion.

November 21, 2023, we approved by consent Warrants and BOT Meeting Minutes. We shared Staff Reports and BOT Reports. We discussed the TEENS, Inc. Childcare Proposal for the Old Town Shop Lot and then the Draft 2024 Budget & Fee Schedule.

November 27, 2023, was the Comprehensive Plan Kick Off Meeting with our consultants SE Group.

November 28, 2023, in a Special BOT Meeting we discussed our next steps for filling the BOT Vacancy and the NMC Election Amendment. Then we hosted the 2024 Budget Public Hearing.

December 1, 2023, Nederland Holiday Lighting Party at the Town Hall. Complete with Santa and Mrs. Claus, yak rides, Christmas caroling, and lots of good folks.

December 5, 2023, we had an Executive Session about the Town Administrator Evaluation Review. We approved by consent the Downtown Colorado Inc Memorandum of Understanding. In the regular BOT Meeting, we approved an election to fill the BOT vacancy, while also voting to open the application process for appointments. If we get adequate interest in appointment, then we will appoint to fill the vacancy until the April election.

We approved the Nederland Municipal Code (NMC) Use Group Table Amendment for Private Schools on Public Lots and the NMC Addition for Parking. Then, we approved four Ordinances that resulted from our Housing Needs Assessment (Administrative Variance, Accessory Dwelling Units, Use Group Table Amendment, and Affordable Housing Yard & Bulk Variances for Deed-Restricted Properties).

December 19, 2023, we approved by consent Warrants, BOT Meeting Minutes, and BOT Liaison Appointment to the Board of Zoning Adjustment. We shared Staff Reports and BOT Reports. Bohannon Huston gave us a presentation about our Housing Needs Assessment. We discussed the 2024 Budget & Fee Schedule. We approved the 2024 Municipal Election, Employee Handbook, and the Amendments to the Election Section of NMC.

December 21, 2023, several community members, Town Staff, and members of Town Government met with GODOT Communications to discuss further the Nederland Brand & Creative Identity project.
