On July 8, a foot patrol officer was walking west from Chipeta Park toward the pedestrian bridge when he saw a white male sleeping in the dirt under the deck of a building. The man was without warm clothing or a sleeping bag. The officer asked him to come out and talk to him.

When the man approached the officer, his breath smelled of alcohol and he appeared cold and intoxicated. He said he had had a couple of beers, that he had argued with his girlfriend and needed to get out of the house. The officer asked the man to go with him to the police department. When he took a breath test, he blew .202 and was transported to ARC since he had nowhere else to go at the time.

On July 13, a Nederland officer responded to a report of a break-in to a shed. The owner of the house said some family members were staying there and they noticed that a lock to the shed was damaged and a garbage can that had been in the shed was on the other side of the house. He was told it could have been an animal that had broken into the shed and he asked the officer to meet him at the residence.

The person staying in the house said they were getting ready to leave when they noticed the lock on the shed was damaged, but she didn’t know if anything was missing. The officer determined that it was not an animal, that there were pry marks, and the steel was bent from the wood. The shed was filled with various objects. She told the owner to check if anything was missing.

A friend who was visiting said that she had heard men’s voices during the night. Later in the day, the owner called and said there was a log splitter, a sledge hammer, an ax, and a hammock missing. It would have been difficult to remove the log splitter, which weighed about 60 pounds and is valued at $300. It appeared that the items had been put into the garbage can and dragged to the other side of the house.

The officer checked the area campsite and found none of the missing items.

The owner of the property called to say he had a video camera and saw that a man walked near the shed and looked for the camera. He then turned away. He was a white male, very thin, and wearing baggy, dark colored khaki pants and a light colored baggy shirt.

The video was sent to the Boulder County Sheriff’s forensic lab to get a still shot of the suspect.

On July 15,  a woman reported that someone had stolen her car key. A Ned officer met her at a bar in town. She said she had been at the bar the previous night and met a man she knew was homeless. She invited the man to sleep at her house for the night. When she left for work the next morning, her car key was missing. The officer reported that he would look for the man to see if he had the key.

On July 16, a woman entered the NPD and asked them to return her .22 revolver. There was no record of the police department ever taking the woman’s gun, nor was there a gun in physical evidence. It was determined that the NPD never took her gun and the case is closed as unfounded.

On July 18, an officer stopped a vehicle that was speeding and found that the driver had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Adams County. He was taken to the Boulder County Jail along with a 44 in a 25 mph speeding ticket.

On July 23, a man reported he had left his truck parked on the side of the road since March because of a lack of parking in the neighborhood, which has caused a rift among neighbors. On July 10, he noticed that his license plate was gone and he got a new one. The stolen plate was entered into CCIC.

On July 24, a Nederland officer responded to a report of a disturbance in progress. He made contact with a woman who said she was the caretaker of the property and said she had been arguing with a tenant. She said she was evicting the man because of a lease violation. The officer told her that this was a civil matter and the two of them need to work out the process peacefully.
