Skylee Barry started attending Nederland schools when she was in sixth grade. Now she is soon to be a Nederland High School Class of 2022 graduate. She is graduating with a class that she says is close knit and they are a group of young people who really support each other. Skylee is proud to be graduating as a Nederland Panther.
While in high school Skylee participated in many activities. She was in Sources of Strength as a freshman, Captains Council as a freshman and sophomore, Student Council as a freshman and sophomore, Executive Student Council as a junior and senior, volleyball as a freshman, junior and senior, soccer all four years of high school and National Honor Society as a senior.
When thinking back on her classes in high school Skylee really enjoyed environmental science. She says that Mr. Real opened her eyes to really love environmental studies and that he made class fun even through online learning, which was not so fun.
Skylee also loved Ms. Strong’s AP Psychology class. Skylee says that Ms. Strong is always there to help a student with an assignment or just there to talk to. “She is a staff member who truly makes you feel like you matter,” Skylee says about Ms. Strong.
Skylee really appreciates the handson and individualized learning that takes place at Nederland Middle- Senior High School. She loves the close community that exists at the school. As well as the relationships that are developed and maintained throughout the years while attending a smaller school like Nederland. But it also has to do with the fact that the people really do care for each other.
With all her school activities Skylee also has found time to work outside of school at Salto Coffee and Broken Arrow Ranch. She loves outdoor activities. Skylee enjoys snowboarding, rafting, fishing, hanging out with horses and hiking with friends. She also likes to spend time with her family.
That environmental science class with Mr. Real at Ned High really did have a big impact on Skylee because she is going to be attending Western Colorado University’s Honors College in Gunnison, Colorado. She plans on majoring in environment and sustainability with a minor in business. Skylee has received a merit scholarship for $4,500 a year.
Skylee, congratulations on your high school graduation and we wish you the best in all your future endeavors.
