The town of Nederland is once again hosting Town Clean Up Day, “a town-driven event where residents from the Nederland area will be able to recycle items for free,” as described on the town website. Trash dumpsters will be provided to residents on a first-come, first-served basis at the Nederland Transfer Station to let them clean up everything they need to, and different stations will be open for different needs.
The Boulder County Transfer Station will accept appliances, cardboard compost, and more. Bedder World will accept mattresses. Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management will accept antifreeze, oil, paint, and batteries. I.T. Refresh will accept electronics. Nederland Community Sort Yard will accept natural waste such as logs, pine cones and needles, and slash. ReSource Central will accept reusable building materials and furniture, such as sinks, light fixtures, and cabinets. Rocky Mountain Recycling will accept scrap metal. Shred It will offer secure paper shredding. Finally, Western Disposal will accept unpainted scrap wood.
In order to move quickly through the event, the town of Nederland asks that you load your vehicles in a particular way: bicycles at the front of your vehicle, followed by scrap metal and/or unpainted scrap wood (if you have any of these materials), then trash, then electronics, then building materials, then shredding, then hazardous materials, and finally mattresses. Home by Jackie Jones will collect items for the Nederland Food Pantry, as well as provide donuts and coffee. Most recycling is free, but utilizing the dumpsters requires a flat $20 fee per car.
Nederland Fire Department, Nederland Sustainability Advisory Board, TEENS Inc., Wild Bear Nature Center, and Wildfire Partners are the 2024 community agency partners in attendance, and they will have informational booths at the event.
The Nederland Transfer Station is located at 286 Ridge Road in Nederland. If you are interested in volunteering for the event (and receiving Nederland goodies, free food, and the opportunity to dump a free carload of trash), email Parks Manager Nicki Dunn at nickid@nederlandco.org. For more specific information, including a complete list of accepted items, a map of the event, and a diagram of how to load your car, please head online to https://townofnederland.colorado.gov/town-clean-up-day. Clean-Up Day will occur on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 8 a.m. until the dumpsters are filled.
