Chris Current, Executive Director of the Nederland Food Pantry (https:// nederlandfoodpantry.org) for the past 30+ years is preparing to retire.
Chris Current has provided leadership for the Nederland Food Pantry since its inception in 1986. The Food Pantry started as a joint project among the local Nederland churches, and food was distributed out of the Presbyterian church once a month to a few households. The Food Pantry’s current location is in the Nederland Community Center and 120 or more households are provided supplemental food every week.
There are now pop-up pantries that also cover Ward, Jamestown, and Wondervu. In addition, under Chris’s leadership, responsibility for the Nederland Clothing Closet was transferred to the Food Pantry. The Community Gardens were also created that grow fresh vegetables for distribution, resulting in hundreds of pounds of fresh food being available for healthy meals for Food Pantry customers.
Chris also led the effort to establish the Peak to Peak Housing and Human Services Alliance (https://www.p2phhs.org) as a collaboration of human service agencies that serve the Peak to Peak region. The Peak to Peak Housing and Human Services Alliance is a gathering of representatives of human service organizations serving the Peak to Peak area of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, coming together to identify needs, expand and enhance services to the residents of the Peak to Peak community, and promote inter-agency communication.
The Board appreciates Chris’s many years of dedication and hard work towards alleviating food insecurity and providing for the basic needs of our community, and we wish her the best of luck in her well deserved retirement.
About the Nederland Food Pantry
The Nederland Food Pantry, including the Clothing Closet and Community Gardens, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that has been fulfilling its mission to relieve hunger and provide basic needs and support to the Peak to Peak community in a respectful and compassionate manner since 1986. It is recognized as the Human Service agency for Nederland by Nederland’s Board of Trustees, and serves as the primary human service agency for the Peak to Peak region of Boulder County.
This will be a time of transition for the Nederland Food Pantry. The Board of Directors is moving, but not rushing, with a sense of responsibility to the Food Pantry and its customers. We will be posting for this position in the coming weeks. We ask for your patience and support.
