Sara Sandstrom-Kobi, Nederland. Nederland Elementary School sstudents and teachers have been taking a break from their regular schedule to ski for decades. This year was no different. For the last two weeks, elementary kids have been taking turns enjoying the bus ride to Eldora Mountain Resort to ski. Each grade level goes to Eldora for two full days.
Children are put into small groups according to ability and Eldora ski instructors provide lessons. The instructors spend the day teaching and providing an awesome day on our local slopes.

This event is sponsored by Nederland Elementary School’s PTA. Thanks to PTA fundraising, donations and Eldora, the two days of skiing are kept at an affordable cost. The PTA also provides scholarships for any family who cannot afford the program. There were years when several kids could not afford to participate. The PTA works very hard to make sure this is an opportunity for all elementary students. They want every child to have the experience of ski lessons and a day on the mountain.

Once known as Winter Adventure Days, this year the name has changed to SHRED. For the last few years, parents Cheree Stover, Danielle Petrovic and Jenn Boehnert have been the driving force behind the success of SHRED. A huge thank you to the PTA, Nederland Elementary and Eldora Mountain Resort for providing such an awesome experience for our local kids.
