Nederland Community Presbyterian Church hosts benefit concert

Dear Editor,

Nederland Community Presbyterian Church is pleased to host a concert by the classical guitar ensemble Alegria on June 29 at 4 p.m. at the church, located at 210 N. Jefferson Street in Nederland. The event is free, with donations accepted to benefit the Rise Against Hunger food packaging event the church will coordinate for the 10th year in mid-September.

The group includes musicians Eri McAuley, Nancy Rao, Carol Ann Kearns, Steve Richardson, Robert McAuley, and Richard Ryan. Performance pieces will include works by Bellinati, Pachelbel, Boccherini, Praetorius as well as traditional folk songs.

Many of the pieces were arranged by the ensemble’s musical director Masakazu Ito, recognized as one of today’s premiere guitarists, acclaimed by musicians, composers, conductors and critics for his mastery of the instrument and its repertoire. He will be directing the ensemble at the concert.

The Nederland Community Presbyterian Church will accept donations from attendees to benefit Rise Against Hunger (www.riseagainsthunger.org), an international foundation that coordinates meal-packaging events and distributes meals to those in need in targeted areas around the globe.

“We are pleased to host this community concert again this year to benefit a worthy cause, providing easy to prepare meals to those who are hungry around the globe,” said Nederland Community Presbyterian Church Missions Elder Paula Gipp.

“We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the music and donate to a great outreach mission.”
