NEDERLAND — While books are often viewed primarily as a source of information, the written word is an art form in its own right. The Nederland Community Library embraces all forms of creativity through its rotating exhibits showcasing local artists from across the Peak to Peak region.
Unlike a typical gallery, the library showcases the work of one artist at a time, with mediums spanning from acrylic to oil and everything in between.
Its current display is a photography show titled "About Face" by Carlye Calvin. For almost 30 years Calvin was a staff photographer with the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder.
After retirement she explores unique themes through the camera lens. Her work in this exhibition shows faces. These faces sometimes appear in metal, wood, on murals, and doorbells. The technical term for this is pareidolia.
Come see the faces— face to face.
The Nederland Community Library Art Committee hosts two open calls per year and selects artists to display from among the applicants.
The Nederland Community Library is at 200 Highway 72 North, Nederland. You can call them at 303-258-1101 or visit nedlib.org to learn more. You can find them on Facebook at facebook.com/nederlandcommunitylibrary.
