Every four months there is an event called Art at the Center. This is when artists have a gallery showing of their work hanging at the Community Center in Nederland. The artists gather to share information about their art.
The mediums include photography, acrylic, oil, watercolor, and pottery which is in a display case.
When you enter the community center you can see the art hanging on the walls. I found myself thinking, what’s my favorite? Or, I could do that or I definitely could not do that.
All the while, I was also thinking it’s amazing to take a deep breath and stop to see the community art, and watch people standing and sitting, talking and eating. That’s what it’s all about.
The refreshments were delicious. The crisp apples were sweet and tender, the summer strawberries juicy and full, and the salami and cheese were creamy and delicious.
I loved seeing it all together, the light piano music wafting through the air, then the great guitar playing. It was a beautiful art show. People had a fun time at the reception. It was well attended, with many first time attendees. The music was enjoyable, starting with Jim McVey on the piano, and wrapping up with Evan Cantor playing guitar, singing and playing the theme songs from James Bond movies.
Annie Thayer shared comments on the art, from the ballots. “People especially liked Kate’s ‘White Lion’ painting, commenting on the eyes, and the beautiful color. Loved the fineness and amazing detail of the botanical drawings of Jeanne Benson. Many comments on Lucas Frimel’s beautiful ‘Arrival at Winter Park,’ he is fairly new to watercolor painting and only 13 years old. Loved the sweet eyes and detail of Maddie’s animal paintings (she is also 13 years old). Loved the color and light in Annie Thayer’s “Evening Light in Maine.” Wolfy’s paintings ‘make me happy’ and ‘love the detail’.”
The night ended with the awards.
1st place: Kate Fitzpatrick - Oil paintings of animals
2nd place: Maddie Perry - Watercolor paintings of farm animals
3rd place: Wolfy Wolf - Watercolor paintings
Coordinator’s Choice Award: Lee Kennedy - Watercolor paintings of flowers
The event went from 5 to 7 p.m. Annie Thayer, organizer commented, “We look forward to having high school art students join the next show in February.”
See you all there!
