Dear Editor,
The Town of Nederland is pleased to announce Free Fitness Month, a community wellness initiative providing free access to the Nederland Community Center Fitness Center throughout the month of September 2026.
Made possible through funding from the Boulder County Board of Commissioners as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Phase 2 Pandemic Recovery and Relief Projects, the initiative supports expanded mental health and social resilience services in partnership with the Peak to Peak Housing and Human Services Alliance.
From September 1 through September 30, community members of all fitness levels are invited to use the Fitness Center at no cost. The program is designed to reduce financial barriers to physical activity while encouraging healthy habits that support both physical and mental well-being.
Research consistently demonstrates the connection between physical activity and improved mental health. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, increase energy, promote better sleep, decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression, and strengthen overall emotional well-being. By removing the cost of membership for one month, the Town hopes to encourage new participants to explore the Fitness Center while supporting existing members in maintaining healthy lifestyles.
Program Highlights:
Free access to the Nederland Community Center Fitness Center from September 1–30, 2026
Open to everyone, regardless of current membership status
An opportunity for residents to experience the physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise
Part of a broader community mental health initiative funded through Boulder County ARPA Mental Health funding
The Town encourages residents who have never visited the Fitness Center to take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore the facility and discover how regular movement can improve overall health and wellness.
