The young women who play on Nederland High School’s soccer team wrapped up their 2023 season on Saturday. They had to play in every type of weather this season from snowy days when volunteers had to keep shoveling to see the lines to warm sunny days.

At their year end banquet Coach Gonzalez thanked the team for working hard this season. In his ever positive message he reminded his players to always believe in themselves. He thanked the managers for supporting the team this year. Coach Gonzalez then paused and gave a heartfelt thank you to the parents and families of the players. “Families, thank you for always being there, with the victories and in the losses. This season is full of successes thanks to you, too. Thank you for being great parents.”

Team awards were presented to Kyleigh McLaughlin (Panther Award), Annabel Ivey (Most Improved), Lauren Dirr (Most Valuable).

Gonzalez recognized Annabel Ivey as the senior on the team. He praised her for her warm heart and told her no matter where she goes she should remember where she is from. He said, “Always be proud that you are from Nederland.”

Gonzalez always stresses that the team is first. When a player or coach wins, the whole team wins. “In Ned we are a team.”

He continued, “This year I enjoyed every moment during every practice and every game with all of you. I learned a lot from you. Thank you so much. It is never too late to continue learning, and this year I tried my best to learn from you. I appreciate all you teach me.”

The soccer banquet ended with the players thanking their coach for his complete dedication he has for this team and to the entire soccer program at Nederland Middle Senior High School.
