The Nederland Panthers Boys’ Soccer team has finished their season with a record of 7-9. This is the best record Nederland soccer has had. In the five years that Nederland High School has had a boys’ soccer team Coach Alberto Gonzalez has built and shaped the soccer program with patience, enthusiasm, care and dedication.
Coach Gonzalez will be the first one to tell you that he is not worried about scores, but learning skills and dedication to the team. He wants the players to believe in themselves and in the team. Always saying that win or lose there is more to learn the next day.
This is Coach Gonzalez’s fifth year teaching Spanish and coaching soccer at Nederland Middle-Senior High School. Before coming to Nederland he coached soccer for 13 years in Spain, two years in Texas, and seven years coaching at different middle and elementary schools in Denver.
This year Coach Gonzalez is being recognized as Coach of the Year for Boys’ Soccer in the Foothills League. Gonzalez’s response to his team when he won this award was, “This award is yours because nothing is possible without you. When a player or a coach wins, everyone wins, because in Ned we are a team.”
Three Panthers have been named to the First Team All League for Boys’ Soccer. They are: Beshal Malla, Oskar Nunemacher, and Maddox Gioia.
At the last home game Coach Gonzalez gave a heartfelt thank you to parents for their support this year and a special dedication to the seniors and their families. Five seniors played on the soccer team this year and most of them worked with Coach Gonzalez all their years in high school. The seniors are: Austin Chareunsouk, Max Godsil, Mason Lupe, Nico Dow, and Beshal Malla.
Congratulations on a great season Panthers!
