Dear Editor,

The work of Rotary International brings together service-oriented people throughout the globe to help their local communities and citizenry. Here in Nederland, through the efforts of our Nederland Rotary Satellite Club and their parent club, the Boulder Valley Rotary Club, four of our local non-profits received funds during this time of crisis and transition.

The Nederland Rotary Club’s areas of funding focus are Digital Equity, Food Equity, and Covid-19 Relief. With these focal points in mind, club volunteers donated funds to Teens Inc to provide internet access for education; and to The Nederland Food Pantry and Nederland Area Seniors to reimburse their drivers’ fuel expense when distributing food boxes and meals to seniors.

In Nederland Rotary Club’s Covid-19 relief efforts, club leaders ran a Facebook campaign to raise $500 to support the Mountain Mask Project via the Mountain Forum for Peace. Nederland Rotary Club set up a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $500 for this endeavor. In total, the club raised $515 through their FB campaign, and coupled with the match, a total of $1,015 was raised for this uniquely mountain effort.

In total, over $2,000 were given to these organizations to support their integral services to many of our community members.

The Nederland Rotary Satellite Club is eager to be a source of volunteerism and support for the mountain communities. Due to the challenges of Covid-19, we are currently not holding in-person meetings. We hope to restart these later this summer or in the autumn and plan to be part of community volunteer efforts in the interim. If you are interested in learning more, taking part in volunteer efforts, or becoming a member, please find us on Facebook @NederlandRotaryClub or email nederlandrotary@gmail.com.
