The town of Nederland’s Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB) recently received an environmental sustainability grant after applying through Boulder County.
Last year, SAB was provided the same grant. Those funds have been allocated to support a local greenhouse that will operate year-round. The project is planned to commence as the ground thaws.
This year’s grant, announced on February 22, 2018, will cover a variety of areas. According to grants coordinator Nathan Tye, the grant will be applied to education and outreach materials, conferences, class registrations, educational opportunities, and a stipend pool for specific projects.
Those projects include implementation of a sustainability intern supervisor, a 100 percent renewable energy plan, a film series coordinator, communications and media coordination, farmers market and greenhouse coordination, local solar electricity projects, development of a SAB action plan for 2019-2021, and coordination between Nederland’s Board of Trustees and other government boards.
Nederland officials hope the sustainability grant will bring the town closer to accomplishing its goals regarding renewable energy.
