Dear Editor,
“Next” on Channel 9 News mentioned that Nederland was giving up its recent commitment to The Rights of Nature. I like “Next,” but I take issue with the short shrift this Ned story got, and hope that those responsible for a thought effort, like taking into account the Rights of Nature here in Nederland will likewise take issue. Whether or not we have a law on the books or have just been mindful of the Rights of Nature, they are rarely mentioned in Town meetings or anywhere – here in Ned, in Colorado, in these United States and in international fora.
Taking Nature into account ought to be thought of as the ultimate mindfulness, and appropriate like grace said before or after meals,
The coverage on 9 News failed to share details about Ned’s efforts to deal with a water issue, so I stamp it as a frivolous waste of a few moments of precious broadcast time, and there are many such, often humorous, sometimes sad. I ask any Mountain-Ear reader who knows a great deal about Ned’s Rights of Nature to write a detailed Letter to the Editor of The Mountain-Ear AND to Kyle Clark at “Next” (he’s a remarkably thoughtful news anchor). In more than 41 years in Nederland I found Nedheads wonderfully resilient. open-minded, and easy-going.
