Sara Sandstrom-Kobi, Nederland. The Nederland High School Nordic team is currently in the middle of their 2020 season. They are a young team with huge amounts of potential. There are 20 student athletes on the team this year.

Under the leadership of coaches Mariah Colton and Kira Badyrka the skiers are constantly learning and improving their techniques. Nordic skiers use the classic technique, also known as kick and glide, and skate skiing or freestyle.

There are two girls and three boys on the Nederland team who are known as skimeisters. This means they ski on both the Alpine and Nordic ski teams. Coach Mariah Colton says, “It’s an extraordinary feat and I estimate that they are skiing around 20 hours a week between the two teams.”

The skimeisters are Bella Lynch, Annabel Ivey, Townes Bakke, Paul Masters and Aric Olson.

As they wax up their skis, we hope these skiers have a great season improving with each meet and learning the skills and perseverance it takes to complete in this sport.

The Nederland Nordic skiers are: Townes Bakke, Helen Cross, Meagan Figgins, Ezekiel Fitzer, Megan Hess, Annabel Ivey, Brundege Ivy, Bella Lynch, Paul Masters, Eirwen McClish, Ben Nichols, Elysia Nitsch, Aric Olson, Violet Rainwater, Lucas Schalz, Natalie Taylor, Rose Taylor, Mackenzie Weber, Zach Weiner, Takira Weise.
