Barbara Lawlor, Nederland.   The Nederland Panther volleyball team lost two games in the past week. Although they are playing well, have the teamwork going, and making some outstanding plays, they can't seem to hang on to momentum to the end of the game.

Senior Bri Lindstrom returns to take on the libero position, the player who has to be everywhere all at once and is doing a great job of keeping the ball off the ground. Katie Jewell's serve is hard to return and accurate and Maggie Rockett is showing good aggression at the net. Now all they have to do is play to the end of the game.

The Panthers played the Liberty Common Eagles on Wednesday, September 3, in Nederland and lost 0-3. After reaching a high point of 10-5 in the first game, the Panthers allowed the  Eagles to gradually fly away, to tie the game at 10, then 12 and then all the way to a 25-15 win.

The second game went to the Eagles from the beginning as the Panthers had a hard time pulling the ball out of the net to continue the play. They lost the second game, 12-25. Although the Ned girls continued to play hard, they went down fast in the third game.

On Friday, September 5, the Panthers traveled to Union Colony, where they challenged the Timberwolves and played to a four-game loss. The scores were: 14-25, 15-25, 25-21, and  11-25.

The next Nederland home game will be on Saturday, September 13, against mountain rivals Gilpin County Eagles at 6 and 7 p.m. for junior varsity and varsity.

The Panthers are now 0-4.
