Ned High seniors honored with a banquet

Nederland High School seniors were honored with a Senior Banquet on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. It was an evening where awards and scholarships were given to students. Seniors were acknowledged for their enthusiasm and dedication in different classes by their teachers. Student athletes were recognized for the sports they participated in. Seniors who will be wearing stoles and honor cords on graduation day were given them during the Senior Banquet recognizing them for maintaining a high grade point average throughout high school.

Putting all the honors and awards aside, the people gathered in the festively decorated Panther gymnasium were there to tell each graduate that they were proud of them. No matter what grade they received in an algebra, biology or world history class the families were there to celebrate. No matter if the graduates are going to college or into the workforce the people there were there to honor all the accomplishments of all the graduating seniors.

Principal Mark Sibley welcomed everyone and introduced representatives from the Nederland Lions Club who have been supporting Nederland High School seniors and this event for 40 years. Then the awards, scholarships, senior gifts, door prizes, and the senior slide show place.

The seniors also gave back to people who they have appreciated during their time in school and throughout their lives in what is known as the White Rose Ceremony. Some seniors chose to give very heartfelt and meaningful speeches of gratitude to people they appreciate. Then they handed out white roses. This was an emotional time for parents, siblings, teachers, friends, and for the seniors themselves.

The Senior Banquet is a long standing tradition at Nederland High School. This year it closed with the graduates sharing what they plan on doing after graduation. Then, everyone went to the auditorium for a slide show featuring, of course, the senior class.

It was an evening filled with applause, gratitude, love and Panther Pride for Nederland High School’s Class of 2022.
