This past 2020-2021 soccer season, Coach Gonzalez was honored by the Colorado Mile High league as girls’ soccer coach of the year in June of 2021. This award is voted on by the other girl’s soccer coaches in the Mile High League. It is given to the coach with the most enthusiasm, dedication, and compassion towards the players on their team both on and off the field, not entirely the team that wins the most games or has the best statistics.

Nederland High school athletic director Sean DePaula says, “ This award does not focus on which coach had the most wins and losses but focuses on the coach that they believe coached most effectively and worked best with their student-athletes.”

This award is an honor for the entire school, and Coach Gonzalez says, “It is an honor to receive this award, and the team worked very hard all season; I am very grateful to be in a position where I can coach a great team and receive such an award.”

All of the girls’ soccer team players are honored that he received the award as well. Player Lauren Dirr says this about Coach Gonzalez, “Coach Gonzalez is extremely dedicated to the girls’ soccer team here at Ned. He is extremely invested in the team and wants nothing but to have fun and provide them with room to grow and improve as athletes. He has always wanted them to succeed and continues to be their biggest supporter.”

On behalf of Ned High, we are so proud of you, Coach, and we hope to see you representing Nederland so positively in the years to come!
