The Nederland Food Pantry (NFP) has continued to provide food assistance through this last year to those in the Peak to Peak region in need and is very pleased that organizations like the Safeway and Albertsons Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors are helping.
The Nederland Food Pantry received a grant from the Nourishing Neighbors Summer Meals program to help provide summer meals to school kids. The program is part of Safeway and Albertsons Foundation Nourishing Neighbors Community Relief Initiative.
Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) had been distributing food to families once a week since the Covid-19 pandemic started last spring, through last summer, and during this last school year. They discontinued their food distribution last week and asked the Food Pantry to help cover the 30-40 families that will be affected by this program ending. While money donations to the NFP have tapered off quite a bit in the last six months, the Food Pantry, with the help of the Nourishing Neighbors Summer Meals grant and Covid funds, will be able to increase the amount of food it distributes starting the beginning of June.
The NFP will also use the new funding to prepare special bags for kids consisting of kid-friendly snacks and produce. Those will be available for pickup during regular distribution on Saturdays.
“We’re grateful Safeway and Albertsons Foundation and their generous customers for helping overcome food insecurity in our community,” said Chris Current, NFP Executive Director. “These funds will help the children of our community with the most basic human need of being nourished.” The Nederland Food Pantry is grateful to be part of the Nourishing Neighbors Family and working together to make a difference!
Since 1986, the Nederland Food Pantry has been fulfilling its mission to relieve hunger and provide basic needs and support to the Peak-to- Peak Community in a respectful and compassionate manner. Since Covid-19 the NFP served between 130 and 180 households weekly. Donations can be made at www.nederlandfoodpantry.org.
The Nederland Food Pantry distributes from the upper parking lot every Saturday between 10 a.m. and Noon. Everyone is welcome. Masks are required.
