The Nederland Downtown Development Authority (NDDA) set its proposed 2022 budget during a regular, virtual meeting on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 6 p.m. The Board also approved application materials for Special Event grant requests.
In 2022, the Board proposes to keep most operating spending consistent with past years. Projects from previous years such as beautification, wayfinding, Big Springs parking, public art, and support for the Nederland Fire Protection District were selected to be included in the proposed budget.
New for the 2022 budget is increased support for special events as well as funding for safety and parking during special events and those times when increased tourism affects traffic flow in the business district. The Board felt it was important to encourage people to park and stay in Town rather than leaving because of fatigue from traffic and difficulty finding parking.
Proposed increased special event funding will be facilitated by new application materials for event planners and local businesses to access funding from the NDDA. The Board desires for this money to be publicized once approved so that those looking to hold events in the business district in 2022 are aware of money available for eligible projects.
The NDDA’s proposed budget will be reviewed by the Nederland Board of Trustees at their work session on October 28, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the public hearing will be during the Board of Trustees regular meeting November 11, 2021, at 7:00 p.m.
The next meeting of the NDDA will be on October 13, 2021, at 6 p.m. Go to https://nederlandco.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation. aspx?Org=Cal&Id=434.
