NEDERLAND — The Nederland Community Presbyterian Church congregation bid a fond farewell to their longtime pianist Daniel Herman at a reception following church services on August 2, 2026.
Herman, who has been the church's pianist for 15 years, was presented with a cake decorated to resemble a piano and a love offering from the members who have enjoyed his keyboard stylings each Sunday. He is moving out of the area.
Herman is an exceptional pianist who played the church hymns and songs as requested, but always with his own flair.
When there was a musical interlude or time before or during the service with music, members of the congregation were often left thinking by the middle of the tune that they recognized the song. Herman would put his own musical spin and talent into a Cat Stevens song, or Prince’s “Purple Rain” or a John Denver tune. His musical repertoire and knowledge is seemingly endless.
As longtime church member B.G. Brooks put it: “Daniel made wonderful music at our church but he contributed far more than that. He is a selfless, caring, genuinely good human being who will be greatly missed. He brought joy to the heart, cheer to the soul, and warmth to our Sunday mornings. If you missed his hour of weekly work you missed a musical blessing. Godspeed, Daniel; we expect a visit and an encore sooner than later.”
