After a long hiatus, the Nederland Basketball Association (NBA) had a successful launch this spring. Thanks to the support of Nederland Elementary School, Teens Inc, and parents from our community, students were able to participate in a three-week camp with about forty 2nd - 5th graders.
Students had two days of practice each of the three weeks where they learned basic skills including ball- handling, shooting, passing, and defense. Some of the older kids enjoyed the program so much they continued playing at the community center for a few more weeks. Students loved scrimmaging with each other and left the program as better friends, teammates, and excited about playing basketball. We call that a success!
“It was so much fun to be a part of relaunching the NBA, the kids had so much fun and learned a little too,” said Gavin Coombs, owner of Peak to Peak Endurance who spearheaded the effort to restart the after school program, “We can’t for next year and it will be bigger and better!” Plans to continue this program and others are in the works as we speak.
