Brittney Wagner has been singing for as long as she can remember. During her school years, she participated in events such as talent shows and musicals singing her heart out, but she hadn’t yet considered playing what would become her instrument of choice – the guitar.
When she was 19, she started playing her college roommate’s guitar. She taught herself from YouTube videos, and fell in love with the instrument. Even though she had tried playing the viola growing up, she eventually fell out of it, and the guitar became her primary instrument (although she can also play the tambourine).
Soon after, she started writing her own songs, and eventually, she toured with the Will Overman Band in Virginia and started getting into playing shows. Initially, after connecting with Will Overman, she sang harmonies with him before touring with him and his band for over three years, playing in states from New York to Kentucky (especially playing on the East Coast). Once she moved to Colorado, she left the band and started playing her own solo shows.
Wagner cites her musical influences as Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, Margo Price, The Wood Brothers, and Billy Strings. She leans towards performing blues, country, Americana, and a little bit of folk and bluegrass. She loves being able to perform live and see people appreciating her original songs. Wagner loves being able to perform in a room with people who enjoy sharing music with others. She also loves being in the audience for live shows as well, regardless of whether she’s performing or listening. For her there is something special about live music.
Writing original songs is a great form of self-expression for Wagner and it allows her to come to conclusions about herself she otherwise would not have come to. When other people are able to relate to her lyrics, to her, it’s the most special feeling in the world.
Brittney Wagner will be performing live at Howlin Wind Brewing and Blending, 51 A Main Street in Rollinsville, on Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. You can also stream her singles “Better off Dead,” “Refuge,” and “Not Lookin’ Back” wherever you get your music. Look forward to a full album from Wagner that will hopefully be released later this year.
