PHOTO COURTESY OF JOHN MCKAY, WHO IS PLAYING SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2021, AT 4 P.M. AT HOWLIN’ WIND.[/caption]
John McKay has been passionate about music since he was young. He started off playing piano at 10 years old, then became interested in the drums at age 11 before finally settling on his instrument of choice at age 15: guitar. He’s been playing guitar for over 40 years now.
McKay has been inspired by singers and bands such as John Prior, The Grateful Dead, Little Feat, and Leo Chochrin, and when he was young, he would play drums to records of George Benson and The Rolling Stones.
In 1996, McKay earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
In February 2014, McKay performed at the Dickens Opera House in Longmont with his first band, Wiley Cotton Band, named after his father.
In 1998, McKay recorded and released his debut album Wiley Cotton, dedicated to his father, and in 2001, he released his second selftitled album. In 2008, he released his most rock-leaning project, Beetles and Bacteria. Earlier this year, he released his fourth solo project, titled Internal Frontier.
McKay is incredibly honored to be able to call music his profession. He loves being able to perform for audiences that latch on to the art he creates, and he hopes he can inspire many more people with his music for years to come.
McKay will be performing at Howlin Wind Brewing and Blending, located at 51 A Main Street in Rollinsville, on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 4 p.m.
