George Trent Grogan and Andrew Gordon have been playing music since their teen years. Gordon remembers going into his father’s library late at night and picking up the guitar to practice from fifteen years old. Meanwhile, Grogan remembers wanting to play the cello from a very young age. He played until he was about six or seven, started playing the drums through high school, and eventually “stole” his brother’s guitar to learn how to play it.
Grogan and Gordon went to high school and college together, but Grogan eventually moved to Texas to pursue his own concert photography business, Mountain Trout Photography. When he moved back to Colorado, he started playing with Gordon again and they formed the four-piece band The Low Road. The two wanted to have the chance to perform locally, and they also wanted to be able to workshop tunes for The Low Road, so they formed the duo The Nippers, named after the class of miners.
The duo believes they feed off each other’s energy the best when they’re performing live. They love being able to perform a different show every time they get on stage and love how they are able to feed off each other when they’re performing live. Grogan feels pride in the cover choices that the band makes, and he loves being able to recommend artists to people to whom they otherwise would not have been exposed.
The duo wants people to be able to check out their larger project (The Low Road), but they’re also happy being able to perform locally as a duo. They love being able to bring their energy to a crowd of people, and they hope that they can encourage that crowd to come and see them perform again.
Be sure to check out The Nippers performing at Busey Brews, located at 70 East 1st Street in Nederland, on Sunday, March 12, 2022, at 2 p.m. Also be sure to keep an eye out for The Low Road’s album Hell County Revue, which comes out later this year. You can stream three singles from the album wherever you listen to music.
