Vocalist Rachel Schaub has been a singer her whole life, majoring in vocal music during her college career and studying music theory and education. Guitarist Cody Lane has also been a musician his whole life, playing in various bands in Missouri and also in Denver once he moved to Colorado.
Schaub and Lane first met in college in Missouri, and shortly after graduation, Lane moved out to Colorado. A couple of years later, Schaub moved to Colorado with her partner. Lane and Schaub ended up meeting again and performing together on their own. They eventually decided to try to play gigs together, but by the time they formed Reservoir Fog in 2020, the pandemic hit, so they weren’t able to play live until winter 2021.
While the two have originals in the works, the two are primarily a cover band, performing songs from artists such as The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Widespread Panic, Amy Winehouse, and Van Morrison. They primarily focus on songs that they enjoy listening to and hope that the audience gets a kick out of listening to them play those songs, too. Music from the 60s and 70s, R&B and soul are among the types of songs that the band was originally drawn to, but it has since expanded to many genres of music.
Schaub loves being able to get up in front of people and see the audience’s faces whenever they play a song that the audience loves. The two love getting feedback from the audience and sharing the joy of the music with them. They want to be able to let the crowd go back to a memorable time of their lives through the music that they perform.
They’re excited to bring more varied music to their shows to make them longer and more diverse. Schaub and Lane are just as excited to get themselves settled in the Peak to Peak music scene, performing for people they’ve known for a long time, before expanding their reach.
Be sure to check out Reservoir Fog performing live at the Nederland Farmer’s Market, 85 East 1st Street in Nederland, on Sunday, May 28, 2023, starting at 10:30 a.m.
