The band members of NoGo Gilbillies have known each other for a long time. Banjo player Adam Pause and bass player Dave “Pump” Solzberg have known each other for the last twenty-five years. They, mandolin player Dave Pullins, and guitar player Paul Sink were all in different, bigger touring bands and decided that they wanted to try something new around the same time. They started coming together to play, and after a short time, NoGo Gilbillies was born.
Solzberg, Sink, and particularly Pullins have all been primarily inspired by bluegrass, while Pause’s influences come from genres such as metal and punk. Sink has also been classically trained in jazz. The band currently plays a lot of traditional bluegrass with some originals containing a unique style thrown into their various performances.
Pause loves being able to perform in the Peak to Peak area of Colorado, particularly with the rich history of the area and its bluegrass music. With various bluegrass bands having formed across Colorado, but particularly in the Peak to Peak area, Pause feels it is incredibly special to be able to be part of a band with their own flavor and their own twist on the genre that still appeals to a wide age range of people who love bluegrass.
He hopes that everyone who comes to their shows has a good time at the performances and is able to enjoy the music, and he also hopes that the shows allow people to connect and hang with their friends. As the gigs are fairly sporadic, since the band members still tour around with other bands as well, being able to go to one of their shows is a special experience and one that Pause hopes will inspire those who attend.
If you want to see NoGo Gilbillies performing live, be sure to check them out at Salto, 112 East 2nd Street in Nederland, on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 5 p.m.
