Kale Lantz was born and raised in Nederland, Colorado, and is currently a student in a college in Washington, studying neuroscience and audiology. From a young age, Lantz played the double bass in the orchestra before moving on to the electric bass, but he never really experimented with making his own music. One day, while hanging out with his friend Anders Holmgren, he started playing around with the digital audio workspace Ableton and fell in love with it.
After about a year of messing around with the program, he was able to release EDM music that he was personally proud of, attaching the name Mountain Greens to it. Since then, he has been working to further his sound, taking a gap year after high school and focusing a lot of his time on making projects. He was able to finish an album during that time, Passiflow, which is out on all streaming services now.
Lantz cites Dirt Monkey and Ganja White Knight as major EDM sources, inspirations that allowed him to change his opinion of EDM from hating it to loving it. He also loves funk and artists such as Funkadelic and Herbie Hancock, along with various hip-hop artists. He even cites Jimi Hendrix as an all-time favorite artist of his.
Lantz is excited to perform in the town of Nederland for the first time, as he’ll be amongst a crowd of people that he knows well and that he hopes will understand his music a lot more. He compares a positive reaction to his music to how comedians must feel when a joke lands properly, as there is a gratifying payoff to seeing people having fun with his music. He hopes that the show will be able to give the audience a flavor of his music and, most importantly, that the audience will have a good time.
You can catch Mountain Greens performing with Subculture, Killa Nilla, and YellGNatz in the show Zubnotic Presents Bass Mountain at The Caribou Room, 55 Indian Peaks Drive in Nederland, on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Doors open at 7 p.m. with an available dinner and the show starts at 8 p.m.
