Stephanie Andelman, Peak to Peak. Head up the hill during the afternoon of Leap Day (February 29) for some fast picking musical entertainment, along with barbeque specials, fire pits, and yard games. Clad yourself in denim, cowboy hats, and cowgirl boots to get in the spirit of a country hoedown.
Wood Belly takes the stage at 12 p.m. and plays until 3 p.m. Winners of the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in 2018, this five-piece Newgrass / Grassicana band met at the Rockygrass Festival in 2015. The instrumentation and rhythmic drive of the band is like a tree trunk centered in bluegrass with branches that uninhibitedly reach out in many directions. There is a powerful focus on songwriting taking hints from multiple genres. They are rooted in tradition but refuse to be confined as their sound pours out with authenticity and passion.
The musical collective of Chris Weist (mandolin), Craig Patterson (guitar), Chris Zink (dobro), Aaron McCloskey (banjo), and Taylor Shuck (bass) make up Wood Belly. After playing at Eldora, they take their bluegrass wound with contemporary innovation to the Future Arts Foundation’s Winter Folk in Longmont for an evening performance. Released just this year, Wood Belly’s second album, “Man on the Radio,” can be streamed from their website.
Your boots will keep stomping when solo multi-instrumentalist performer Tiffany Christopher takes over at 3 p.m. Her expertise on the guitar (and drums, ukulele, bass, and keys) promises to rock you, while her songwriting is both soothing and invigorating. Growing up on a horse ranch close to the Mississippi River, her wide-ranging vocals have been influenced by old country songs. Tiffany’s trademark energy and talent has been captivating audiences of all ages around Colorado and New Mexico for the past ten years.
