When Adam Hunt was a kid, his father would wake him and his siblings up on weekend mornings by putting a vinyl record on his turntable and turning it up as loud as he could. The music could have been anything, from classical to jazz to rock to country. It always played throughout the house while Hunt would chase his brother around the dining room table or while they would nap in the sun. These became some of Hunt’s most formative memories.
This wasn’t Hunt’s only experience with music. His grandparents took him to orchestra performances constantly, and his father played the piano. He tried learning piano himself for a while and even played saxophone in junior high band (despite being his third choice after the drums and the French horn). Eventually, while a teenager, he started playing the guitar. He played his first gig at a house party shortly after he started guitar, and during these gigs, he tries to play as varied of a show as he can in regard to musical styles.
Partly because he doesn’t know how to read music and partly because he likes experimenting, Hunt basically lets the songs he writes go where they take him. They don’t usually follow a verse-chorus structure, and he’s recently taken to classifying his music as acoustic Prague or progressive acoustic music. He says that despite a slight aversion to playing live, he’s currently looking for more shows outside of his gigs at Very Nice Brewing Company.
Music is a compulsion for him, and he wants people to have a good time at his shows, whether he blends more into the background as people talk amongst themselves in a bar environment or whether he ends up playing music that people are able to connect to.
You can see Adam Hunt (RedHed) playing at Very Nice Brewing Company, 20 East Lakeview Drive #112 in Nederland, on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 5 p.m.
