Toubab Krewe

Sara Van Valkenburgh, Nederland. Frozen Dead Guy Days is here again, and this year on March 13, 2020, at 10 p.m., The Caribou Room will be hosting Toubab Krewe, the vibrant, Asheville based musical endeavor that was formed back in 2005. Toubab Krewe is self-described as “a band that actively draws inspiration from whatever source floats into their purview.” With that in mind, this “instrumental powerhouse” plans to present their very own genre to the crowds of Frozen Dead Guy Days, consisting of a unique blend of international folk, African influences, touches of jam sensibilities and more, which they have dubbed “international country.”

Toubab Krewe has been pounding the pavement for a decade and a half, consistently appearing at a multitude of big-name festivals both stateside and internationally. They have made regular appearances at Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Jam Cruise and High Sierra as well as international gatherings such as The Desert in Essakane, Mali and Shanghai World Music Festival, which has earned them the respect of a wide variety of musical greats.

One thing that differentiates Toubab Krewe from other African-influenced American bands is their ability to expand on what they learned while studying in Guinea, Ivory Coast and Mali as opposed to simply reproducing it. They have successfully integrated all of these traditional genres into something new, and their very own. Catch Toubab Krewe live at The Caribou Room after FDGD on March 13. Free entry with your FDGD wristband. For more information visit their Facebook page or see thecaribouroom.com.
