Stephanie Andelman, Nederland. Maybe being a girlfriend carries the duty of practicing patience. Maybe it means chopping firewood and plowing the driveway. No matter what girlfriends are expected to do, they should go out and hear live music while viewing art.

Tomorrow’s First Friday features the band, “Girlfriend Duties,” made up of sisters Savanna and Jenny Wright, along with Patrick Smith and Nils Jenson. This folk-rock band draws on Americana, soul, and punk rock sounds, spinning out a style of their own. The rich harmonies and catchy songwriting marry the modern with traditional, in true American fashion.
The soundtrack of Girlfriend Duties shines upon the works of Lorelei Stumbo Falsetti. Known for her burnt wood art, she gathers raw wood and weaves in construction scraps, demolition waste, discarded jewelry and used clothing to form intricately dimensional pieces. The textures and compositions based on decay, repair and rebirth inspire her creations. She developed the abstract technique of crafting fire-sculpted pieces in Iowa City and landed in Nederland two years ago.
