Mountain Sustainability Efforts 2016

The Town of Nederland is working hard on sustainability initiatives for mountain residents and businesses.

Check out what’s in store for you in 2016:

Insulation and Furnaces:   Make your mountain home warmer with free and subsidized energy efficiency upgrades, for income qualifying residents within Boulder County.  Call 303.544.1000 to get started. (Link to “EnergySmart 50%”)

Toilets:  Nederland residents, swap out your toilet for one that is WaterSense approved and receive a rebate up to $200 from Town Hall.  Available through April 25th:   nederlandco.org/2016/03/2016-residential-water-conservation-rebate/

Sprayers and Aerators:  Local restaurants can get free high efficiency faucet aerators and pre-rinse spray valves that can save thousands of gallons of water a year.  Contact Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE):   303-786-7223 or info@PACEpartners.com

Compost:  NedCompost picks up your kitchen scraps from your Nederland home by bike, $7 per month. Compost available for your garden on a donation basis.   More info: nedcompost.org or office@nedcompost.org

Recycling and Compost Bins:  Local business can get $300 for waste diversion collection bins, free customized waste signage, and free zero waste training for employees.  Contact Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE):   303-786-7223 or info@PACEpartners.com

Community Garden:  The Nederland Community Garden is being revived this spring!  To get involved in the local agriculture movement, contact Elizabeth Allen:   lizbet.allen@yahoo.com

Farmer’s Market:  Nederland will be hosting it’s first-ever Farmer’s Market this summer!  Local farmers, vendors and crafters please contact Camille Thorson:  cami.thor@gmail.com

Eliminate plastic bottle waste:   Water bottle refill stations that quantify the number of disposable plastic bottles diverted from Nederland waste streams are coming soon to public buildings near you.

Lights:  Local businesses who install energy efficient lighting can earn big rebates from Xcel.  Visit:    http://www.xcelenergy.com/Programs_and_Rebates  or call  1-855-839-8862.

Solar:  Cash back and low-interest financing (1.99%) for rooftop solar on your mountain home…affordable and simple.  Sign up before May 15, 2016:  www.solarbenefitsbouldercounty.com

Building Codes:  Nederland is considering updating new construction building codes to meet higher IECC efficiency standards.  Learn more at an upcoming SAB meeting.  Email:  SAB@nederlandco.org.

Town Energy Reports:  You can track Nederland’s energy consumption by sector (residential, commercial, industrial, street lighting, etc) coming June 2016.

SAB seeking members. The Nederland Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB) is a government board run by local volunteers to advise BOT decisions affecting our mountain environment, economy and society.  Applications:  http://nederlandco.org/government/town-boards/

Next SAB Meeting:  Thursday March 31, 2016, 7:15pm in Nederland Community Center conference room (ground floor).  The public is invited and encouraged to attend all SAB meetings.
