Dear Editor,
All Mountain People’s Co-op members are enthusiastically invited to attend the June 1st meeting at the Community Center Theatre at 5:30 p.m. to VOTE on the Co-op’s transition to a non-profit organization.
There will be TREATS!
There are many advantages for the Co-op to transition to a 501(c)(3) commonly known as a non-profit organization.
Top of the list for me as a 36 year Co-op member is that as a non profit the Co-op can now welcome back VOLUNTEERS!!!
With a tax exempt status all donations to the Co-op become tax deductible. This has the opportunity to invite larger donations for large ticket needs such as a generator. Additionally, a non profit designation allows a decrease in taxes paid thus decreasing operating expenses.
LASTLY but not least, becoming a 501(c)(3) enables the Co-op to apply for and receive grants.
I invite all Mountain People Co-op members to join me on June 1st for a presentation and to vote.
Due to Co-op bylaws all votes must be cast in person.
Teresa Robertson
