Mountain deliveries struggles: A silver lining?

Posted

To recap, on July 26, 2023: a few residents of the Paradise Valley Estates (PVE) noticed their UPS packages were not being dropped off near the door but were left on the road. When residents inquired about the delivery method, they were informed of a new UPS policy.

The new policy instructed drivers to no longer drive packages up to mountain homes and to leave the packages at the road or driveway entry. For details about this issue, please refer to “The reality of mountain deliveries struggles” article in the August 10, 2023, edition of The Mountain-Ear.

After a few weeks of further investigation and keeping in touch with PVE Home Owners Association members, we learned that the policy set in place in July was for local mountain deliveries and was enacted by the current local UPS manager.

After ample complaints to corporate generated enough pressure, the UPS acting manager felt inspired to work toward having the policy revoked. When the policy will be repealed is uncertain.

Residents have requested an accurate copy of the delivery policy for Gilpin County and UPS’s Reasonable Accommodation Policy and process, which affects the elderly and disabled members of our communities.

Many mountain residents rely on deliveries for the bare necessities and more. Let’s hope the near future will bring good news for those struggling to live busy lives and count on the convenience of mountain deliveries.
