The Nederland Middle Senior High School Mountain Bike Team had their first race in Frisco, Colorado, on August 29, 2021. This race was an 11 mile Individual Time Trial (ITT). They competed against 17 other schools.
Coach Alison Powers says that in an ITT a racer races against the clock not knowing how anyone else is racing compared to you.
Coach Alison was pleased with the team’s results and proud of their efforts. She said, “It was everyone’s first ITT and for not having that kind of race experience, they did extremely well. For our freshmen, Grayson and Laila, it was their first ever mountain bike race.”
She added, “As a team, from last year, we doubled our size from three to six and I’m really impressed with how well everyone gets along, learns from each other, and helps each other. It’s an honor to be a part of the team.”
For this ITT in Frisco in the Junior Varsity Boys division Hayden Camp placed 12th out of 102 racers. In the Junior Varsity Girls division Violet Rainwater placed 17th out of 41 racers. In the Freshman Girls division Laila Waldron placed 10th out of 26 racers. In the Freshman Boys division Grayson Shurr placed 21st out of 72 racers.
This team has some great momentum going into their next races in Eagle and Granby. Good luck Panthers!
