Hello, my name is Marie Mornis. I am your County Commissioner from District 1. It is my hope to continue serving Gilpin County for four more years. Working to meet the needs of our residents, with their best interests and tax dollars in mind has been my great honor and pleasure.
Just so you know, I’d like to share my educational background with you. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Michigan Technological University, and then worked to receive my Master’s Degree in Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.
Throughout my career, I have worked for small and large corporations, retiring from Xcel Energy after fifteen years in Project Management. It was in that position I brought projects from concept to completion, including design, purchasing, construction, interacting with a multi-disciplinary team, all while managing multimillion-dollar budgets.
My initial service to our community was as a Gilpin County School Board member where I supported funding for the construction of the wing for our High School.
Over the forty-one years my husband and I have made Gilpin County our home, we raised three children who have given us eight grandchildren, and now - one great-grandchild! With such a large family, we share in their joy and happiness of raising a family, but I have also developed a keen awareness of the challenges and difficulties families face in today’s world.
I am respectfully asking for your vote this year for County Commissioner so that I can continue to bring a balanced perspective, and especially fiscal restraint, to the issues and concerns we all have as Gilpin County residents.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
