Dear Editor,
Gilpin County - wake up!!!!!!! This new tax being put on the ballot in November is in part a welfare program for the employees hired to support the rec center. We attended the informational meeting Monday night about this tax.
According to the figures presented by the Director of the rec center, only 55% of the county even used the building. That means 45% of you never stepped in. Several of the presenters on the side of passing this new tax mentioned (multiple times) the new tax was necessary to “secure” the jobs of those working there. I wonder how we got by for 17 years with full staff, open seven days a week (not 5) without taxing the people a special tax for the Parks and Rec. Hmmmm. Must be Covid.
Don’t be fooled! Gilpin is a wealthy county because of the millions we get from the casinos. We can afford all the expenses of the rec center without SPECIAL TAXES on our citizens.
Do what you will, neighbors. But consider doing/saying SOMETHING!
