More about Hermann Groicher

Posted

Greetings Barbara,

It's Steve, Ex-Lazy Z home owner, (Pioneer customer, friend of Bunny, Eve and Barbara Lawler)  for decades until I sold about 9 years ago. I hope you got the Xmas card I sent to you this month. It had a postcard in it and I think I sent along a Nederland sticker.

On page 7 [of the December 18 issue] is a letter about Hermann Groicher's upcoming  90th birthday. His daughter mentions the Fawn Brook Inn, but neglects to mention The Greenbriar Inn. He was the head chef there for many years before he left to open The Fawn Brook Inn . This was all through  the seventies when The Greenbriar and The Red Lion were Boulder's finest, legendary restaurants.

I worked with Hermann for years. Making the trek to North Boulder, up and down Magnolia or the Canyon if it was snowing. And of course when an old friend of those days rolled into town to visit, we headed for The Fawn Brook.

I'm still in touch with a lot of those people and have given them the card info.  Many thanks for printing his daughter's letter - he will get a nice bunch of cards from old friends who worked there during that crazy time in Boulder.

The Boulder History Museum's current exhibition is called "Boulder Eats" and the Greenbriar gets several nice displays. You would probably like the show, I think it's there into spring 2026 -- great work on the paper, looks like things will work out for you two  --
