Megen M. Stadele passed away from this world, in her sleep and at home on 20 June 2015 surrounded by members of her immediate family, after a 12 year battle with Breast Cancer. Wife, mother and educator, Megen lived in Nederland for the last 16 years of her life.
Megen Marie Johnson was born on 2 April 1957 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, daughter of Charles (Cliff) Johnson and Margaret (Peggy) Johnson.
Her young life was spent overseas in Latin America and South Africa. She graduated in 1974 from Lincoln High School in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Megen returned to the US to attend Albion College in Michigan and graduated with a double major in 1978.
She met her husband, Lee at Albion and they were married in 1981. Megen and Lee moved to Colorado in 1982 where Megen attended CU-Boulder and received a Teaching Certificate, Master’s Degree in ESL and a Reading Endorsement. She worked at Denver Public Schools for several years and then with Boulder Valley School District, until her illness forced her into retirement in 2013.
Megen loved to be outside in the sun walking her dog or running. She loved books and was rarely seen without one in her hand. Her family was her greatest joy and she is survived by her husband, Lee of Nederland, daughter Julia and her husband Allen of Granby, younger daughters Emma and Laura and her mother, Margaret (Peggy) Johnson of Waterford, Michigan. Megen was preceded in death by her brother, Paul and her father, Cliff. Megen’s kind and inquisitive spirit will never be forgotten and her memory will be cherished forever.
A Celebration of Megen’s life will be held at Nederland Community Presbyterian Church on Friday 26 June 2015, 11 am o’clock.
